ABI Mission & Vision

The Afya Way

Health in Swahili is Afya. When we founded our first school, we knew it was the perfect term to capture our mission to teach children to live healthy, balanced lives: intellectually, socially/emotionally, and physically.

The Afya Way is a whole-child approach to education. ABI’s schools nurture students to create a solid foundation so each individual can thrive in high school and beyond.

Our schools strive to help students become active learners and caring community members by helping them establish ambitious and feasible goals. Our programming enables students to think critically, work collaboratively, become physically active, and develop a strong sense of self.

Together with our families and partners, we equip students with the skills needed to claim a sense of agency as they take action to improve their community.

ABI provides the healthy foundations needed for our teachers, leaders, and staff to deliver on our promise:

  • High-quality support and leadership in academics, social/emotional learning, communications, facilities and finance
  • Opportunities to access professional learning, including grants through our Afya Baltimore Faculty Fund, for exploration and growth
  • Out-of-school-time (OST) programming that allows students to explore new experiences and expand their horizons
